A Prayer, Because We Aren’t Like David

To prepare your hearts for worship this morning, think about how the Psalms speak of worship: remember David’s full-throated and joyous excitement about going to praise God. Think about his passionate joy in hearing God’s Word read and explained (and he didn’t even have the best part!). Watch him as he commits to telling everyone who comes to worship about the wonderful things God had done for him. Wonder at David’s heartbroken cries for those who didn’t hear God, know God, or love God. Feel his righteous anger at those who opposed God and oppressed His worshipers. Repent of how little your heart is stirred by what you’ve come to participate in. But don’t stay there. Ask God for a great gift: “O God, make me more like David this morning, so that I might be more like Jesus. Amen.”
