Review: One-to-One Bible Reading: A Simple Guide for Every Christian

One-to-One Bible Reading: A Simple Guide for Every Christian
One-to-One Bible Reading: A Simple Guide for Every Christian by David Helm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent brief introduction to and explanation of a very basic concept in discipleship. One of the best ways to grow as a Christian, and to help others grow, is to read the Bible together. Helm winsomely talks through this idea, and explains a simple method for carrying it out. The last section is a helpful collection of starter questions to ask of the text, organized by genre. I’m currently working through Hebrews and Mark with friends using the questions, and they’ve been very helpful at avoiding the individualism of personal Bible study. The questions reveal the text, not the reader.

Helm has taken a good but apparently very intimidating idea, and put hands and feet on it by providing instruction and tools to carry it out. Very successful book, and one that I will be passing on to others.
