Indispensable Dishonor

Tertullian, defending the humanity of Christ, appeals to Paul’s argument that suspends the whole Christian faith on the realities of bodily death and bodily resurrection, and urges his opponent to stop taking a knife to God’s truth:

“Spare the whole world’s one only hope, thou who art destroying the indispensable dishonour of our faith.”

ANF V.VII.V., p. 525.
