40 Days for Life

40 Days for LifeOf all the issues of social justice in our country today, none deserves the attention of Christians more than abortion. In full accord with the law of the land, we don’t defend the weak; we destroy them. We don’t give our lives for the helpless; we take theirs for our convenience. We don’t protect our children; we murder them. Abortion represents the scourge of God on a wicked nation, and when we as a nation continue to not only defend this evil practice, but to celebrate it, we can be sure that our judgment will only intensify.

But God so loved the world, that He sent His only Son. The gospel is powerfully at work in hearts and lives across the country, and God is raising up men and women to take battering rams to the gates of hell. And while there are many strategies to pursue, and many ways to get involved, as Christians, our first and most potent option is the worship of the Lord of all the world. Because Jesus died and rose, and because He has ascended in power, God has rewarded Him by giving Him authority over the earth. And so we worship Him, and enter His presence, and make our requests known to God.

When we ask anything of God in the name of Jesus, He hears us. 40 Days for Life is a focused campaign of prayer against abortion, and for the children that God knits together inside the womb. From September 25-November 3, cities all across the country are hosting prayer vigils outside of abortion clinics for forty days, calling on God to deliver the women and children, to strike down the works of the evil one, and end the dark work being done at these clinics.

Annapolis is one of those cities. Thanks to the mighty work of God at other clinics, there is only one remaining abortion clinic in Anne Arundel county, here in Annapolis on West St. The 40 Days for Life website has more information, including a schedule where you can sign up to pray for one-hour blocks during these next several weeks. This is a God-sized challenge for a gospel-filled people. May God find us faithful.

Psalm 68:1-3, ESV

God shall arise, his enemies shall be scattered;

and those who hate him shall flee before him!

As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away;

as wax melts before fire,

so the wicked shall perish before God!

But the righteous shall be glad;

they shall exult before God;

they shall be jubilant with joy!
